Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda (MFR)

Meet the FCT Senator
(Leader 9th Senate Minority Whip)

Political Career

He was elected as a Councillor on a non-party basis for AMAC to represent Karu Ward in 1996. While serving as a Councillor, he was appointed as Chairman, Committee on Sports, Voluntary Organisations, and Union Activities in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

He was at different times appointed Supervisory Councillor for Education and Works and was the Deputy Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council within the same period in 1997. He took a break from politics and went back to school, where he studied Public Administration at Bida Polytechnic and obtained an HND in 1999.

From 1999 to 2000, he joined the People’s Democratic Party and also formed his own group called Mandate in 2003. His political reminiscence was rekindled using this platform to again launch his political campaign, where he eventually won the 2003 election to represent Abuja Municipal Area Council/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

While serving as a House of Representatives Member, he was the Chairman of the House Committee on FCT from 2003 to 2007 and, within the same period, was a member of the following committees:

  • Education
  • Capital Market
  • Commerce
  • Housing and Urban Development
  • Women Affairs
  • Member Selection Committee

Even though the elections in 2007 were scuttled, denying him the opportunity of his second-term bid, he later reclaimed his mandate to represent the people of Abuja Municipal Area Council/Bwari Federal Constituency in April 2008. Since then, he has remained committed, resolute, and dogged in the quest to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends to the people of the FCT through quality representation in the National Assembly.

Between 2008 to 2011, he was a member of the following Committees: Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Water Resources, Committee on Banking and Currency, Committee on Legislative Budget, and Agriculture.

Currently, as a Serving Senator, he is also a member of the Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Trade Investment, National ID Card & Population, and the Adhoc Committee on Bureau of Public Enterprise (BPE).

He was a two-term Member of the House of Representatives and now a second-term senator for the Federal Capital Territory since April 2011 till date.

He has served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development, and Metallurgy and is presently a principal officer, occupying the position of the Minority Whip of the Senate. He is also the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Land Transport and a member of the Senate Committees on Communications, Water Resources, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Petroleum Downstream, and Power.
